Some people dream about becoming CEO of a multi-million dollar company, a Doctor, or even a professional football player.
I don't dream of fame, fortune, or even a job that pays for elaborate vacations...I dream of becoming a Marine Mammal Trainer. I dream of waking up before dawn to bucket fish for so long I smell of Mullet for weeks, I dream of long hours working to train behaviors that seem impossible, I dream of being in the water so long with an animal my hands look like prunes, I dream of inspiring others through my passion, I dream of becoming a dolphin trainer.
I have worked so hard to make this dream a reality through my previous internships with the United States Navy Marine Mammal Program and Clearwater Marine Aquarium. There are very limited facilities to gain the further experience needed for me to advance in this field and make it my career. So with undescribable excitement I would like to announce I have been offered an internship at Dolphin Quest Bermuda.
Hundreds of people from all around the world apply for this position and I have been chosen.
Unfortunately this is an unpaid internship for a 6 month period. I will be unable to seek a paying job to go to at night when my intern duties are finished because I will be in Bermuda on a visa (it is illegal to make money there while I am on this visa).
I have crunched some numbers so far...
Flight: $370
Rent for 6 months $35 a night: (at a privately owned hostel dormitory at the site of a museum, less than 2 minutes walking distance from internship) $6,300
Ferry/buss pass 6 months: 300
Groceries: ($65 each week; groceries are imported to the island$$$) $1560
Flight back: 370
This gives me a grand total of:
$8,900
I hope to save just under $6,000 on my own from working my current job until May 2nd 2016 when the internship begins, but am graciously asking for any help with this endeavor. Anything is appreciated, even just some words of encouragement to fuel the fire I already have in me to make this happen ;)
