Guardianship Legal Fees

Hello friends,

I find myself at a moment where I need to lean on my larger community for financial support. Due to a complex circumstance, I have had to hire legal counsel to assist me with getting guardianship of my brother Seren. I am asking for donations to help pay my lawyer fees. Please do not feel any pressure to give if you are not in a position to do so. I appreciate all the various forms of support my community has already provided me around this.

As many of you may know, my younger brother Seren has been living with TJ and I for about two years. He came to live with us because my mom didn't have a stable home, and I was happy to have him. We have grown into a quirky family, and Seren is thriving in Davis. He has made new friends, is part of the mountain biking team, and is improving academically.

Seren went to Colorado to visit family this summer. While he was staying with our mother, she decided that he should stay with her in Colorado due to her Qanon beliefs. Seren was devastated. He asked that I do what I could to get him home. Living with her was an unhealthy situation, and I believe he deserves to live in a stable home with sane and functional adults who care about him.

Although I love my mother and did not want to cause tension in the family, when she repeatedly refused to allow Seren to come home to Davis, I felt like I had no choice but to fight for him through the legal system. I found a family lawyer to help with the process. The court recently granted me legal guardianship, and I am incredibly grateful to be on the other side of the stressful court scenario.

Donations will be used to pay off the credit card debt I took on to pay the lawyer. Anything above that will help cover Seren's living expenses, pay for extracurriculars like skiing and mountain biking, and contribute to his long-term savings account.

I'm currently a full-time student studying psychology at UC Davis, completing my undergrad on the path to becoming a Marriage and Family therapist. I work part-time and do my best to provide, but it is challenging to stay afloat. I do not receive financial assistance to provide for Seren. Seren and I both appreciate your support. <3
