Provide wheelchairs for disabled adults and children

We are starting a pilot project with the Sunrise Foundation Zanzibar (Non-profit, NGO) to provide disabled members of the community a much needed wheelchair. Currently without wheelchairs these disabled adults and children are quite literally housebound.

We will be buying second hand wheelchairs, fixing them up into a useable condition and delivering them alongside a food parcel to those in need.

Initially as part of the pilot scheme we’d like to provide 10 separate wheelchair and food packages to disabled people and their families this August 2024. We will be collaborating with local disability organisations and healthcare providers to identify 10 disabled individuals in critical need of mobility assistance, travelling to where they live and hand delivering the donations.

We have estimated that each wheelchair plus food package with cost £130.

£100 per wheelchair and £30 per food package.

This will include:

• One fully functioning and suitable wheelchair

• One months worth of food including:

10kg rice

5kg maize flour

5kg beans

5kg sugar

2 litres cooking oil

Salt

2pcs noodles

3kgs wheat flour

5kgs washing powder

An additional £20 would mean we could provide chicken, fruit and vegetables too.

Once we have completed this first part of our project we’ll then follow up with the recipients one month later to gain feedback for our donors.

We would hugely appreciate any financial support towards this programme which we then hope to roll out across the whole of the island by the end of the year.

For individual’s, families or businesses that would like to provide a whole package for a disabled person and their family please include “Donated by:” plus your names/business name and email address in the comments alongside your donation so we can provide the recipient with the donors information on a laminated card as well as provide you with a keepsake photograph of your donation.

This option would require a donation of £130 for the basic package

or £150 to include chicken, fruit and vegetables with the food parcel.

For smaller but equally appreciated donations we’ll also provide acknowledgement by including your names in list form on the Sunrise Foundation social media alongside photographs so you can see exactly what your kind donation has provided and for whom. Please include your name in your donation if you’d like this option, otherwise please donate using the anonymous option.
