provide resources for caregiving entrepreneurs
Hello, my name is Meshell Baker. I am Caregiving Entrepreneur.
I have been supporting my sister, Daphne Baker with activities of daily living and medical tasks as a live-in aide and caregiver beginning in September 2013.
Daphne has sickle cell anemia and is legally blind. In September 2013, Daphne relocated to Austin where I became her full-time live-in aide and caregiver. I soon found I was mentally and emotionally unable to successfully maintain a Biotech Sales Rep role traveling 80% of the time and facilitating Daphne’s care. To me it was a no-brainer, I gave 30 days’ notice for the job.
Daphne's illness progressed and she relocated back to Dallas with our parents in April 2019. And then on October 16th, 2021, I relocated to Dallas to be my sister’s live-in aide and share caregiving with my parents.
This time I was adamant that I would be open, honest, and authentic about my entrepreneurial pursuits while simultaneously being a caregiver. I have been doing both and it has not been easy. And it is the impetus for The C.U.R.E. Community. The idea came about after I returned from traveling to speak while sitting on Daphne’s bed, I wondered where were the other Caregiver Entrepreneurs and their persons with disabilities. And how could we unite, collaborate, and support each other?
I recognize that caring for my sister Daphne was more than I anticipated and my great love for my sister gave me the strength to be brave. While my passion and gift for speaking and coaching gave me the courage to "figure it out" and make both of my loves work.
I am on a mission to unite entrepreneurs with caregiving responsibilities who have the capacity to do good, by encouraging them amidst the challenges of their circumstances and empowering them toward their infinite possibilities.
