My friend Basida, along with his 4 siblings, is facing a dire food crisis in Brikama, Gambia. With no reliable access to work, only a few banana trees to provide sustenance, and seasonal water scarcity forcing them to purchase clean what from shops, their situation is urgent. Basida, a determined young man in Brikama, Gambia, is doing everything he can to provide, but the lack of job opportunities and limited access to resources make it nearly impossible.
Here’s how your contributions make a direct impact:
- $5 can buy clean drinking water for a day.
- $10 can cover water and soap for basic hygiene.
- $15 can provide water and detergent for washing clothes.
- $20 can provide enough food and water for the family for one day.
The struggle for food is a daily battle for Basida and many others in Brikama, where systemic issues like economic instability, global inequities, and a colonial legacy have left communities without the means to thrive. In moments like these, we have a chance to come together, not just to offer help but to stand in solidarity with someone in need.
Every dollar helps to ensure Basida can feed his siblings and himself or provide unexpected necessities like medicine.
Imagine raising $10,000 to cover a full year of essentials—food, water, hygiene, and clothing—for Basida’s family.
Most of us spend $15 a month on Netflix or another $15 grabbing takeout without a second thought. This time, why not invite friends over to cook a meal together and stream a show? Put what you’d spend on takeout or entertainment toward supporting Basida and his family instead. Small shifts in our spending can make a profound difference in their lives.
Let’s come together to help Basida’s family survive the result of centuries of colonialism, economic extraction, and resource exploitation. Your kindness can truly save lives. Thank you for standing with us!
