Provide Comfort to Iowa's Foster Kids - Fostering Hope

Hi, I’m Nick Scar, and I’m the founder of Fostering Hope for Second Chances, a nonprofit rooted in a calling I’ve felt for over 20 years — to support, uplift, and care for children in need. From mentoring through Big Brothers Big Sisters to serving on youth-focused nonprofit boards, helping children has always been at the heart of my life’s purpose.

This journey recently deepened as I began the process of becoming a foster parent, with the hope of possibly adopting. Along the way, I saw firsthand how children enter foster care with little to nothing — no pajamas, no toothbrush, no comfort item to ease the fear of entering a new home. That moment moved me to act.

That’s where Fostering Hope for Second Chances was born...

Our mission is simple but powerful:

To provide essential items like diapers, wipes, formula, clothing, and comfort items to foster families and children at no cost, because every child deserves a soft landing and a second chance.

We’re currently raising $50,000 to:

1. Launch a mobile trailer unit that will collect and distribute donations across Iowa, as well as storage shelving for the unit

2. Stock supplies for emergency placements and shelters

3. Begin serving children the moment they enter care

4. Cover the costs of insurance for the trailer, attorney, and CPA set-up fees

We believe in minimal overhead and maximum heart. Our nonprofit is built on the passion of volunteers, not staff salaries, so your donation goes directly to helping kids.
