My name is Denise and my grandmother (pictured) is Juana Mendoza. She has been living in the U.S on and off for the last 20 years before she recently decided to move back to the Philippines following the death of her son and her declining health.
In 2023, following the death of my uncle, Juana suffered three separate heart attacks and was later diagnosed with heart failure. With heavy hearts, our family made the difficult decision to send her back to the Philippines so she could be surrounded by her loved ones.
Fast forwarding to 8/17/2024, Juana was taken to the hospital due to weakness and shortness of breath. She has since been diagnosed with kidney failure as well. Our family fears she is nearing the end.
The healthcare system in the Philippines does not favor the impoverished and following circumstances outside of our control, our family is struggling to find funding for her outstanding medical bills and the memorial service that we fear is coming our way.
As I write my grandmother's story, my heart breaks for my family and everyone who has been on this journey with us. She raised 8 children, she has been able to experience being a grandparent and even a great-grandparent. She provided the best she could for her family and loved us all fiercely. Please help us provide for her now so we can give her the end she deserves.
