Provide Clean Water To Remote Siekopai Community

Donation protected
Help Vinson Martin and Daniel Eaves fundraise for the construction of a water well for the Mañoco community in the Ecuadorian Amazon. In just a few weeks, we will head deep into the Amazon with the materials funded by your donations to provide clean water to the Mañoco people with the help of local NGO Fundación Raíz.

The Siekopai are an indigenous group living in the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Amazon. Mañoco is a Siekopai community of around 80 people located next to the Lagarto Cocha river within the Airo Pai community reservation, so remote that the government and NGOs struggle to provide aid.

Inhabitants of Mañoco live a relatively undisturbed life and retain much of their cultural values and customs. Their livelihood is based mainly on agriculture, fishing and hunting, with the majority of the harvested products used for the sustenance of the community and the slight excess providing enough income to buy simple goods. Mañoco's water supply comes from rainwater collection systems installed three years ago by a local NGO. This system provides clean water to the communities for some of the year; however, increasingly, the tanks go dry during the summertime due to extended periods of drought.

During these dry months, the community is forced to use water from the closest river, which has been contaminated by commercial operations upstream. This is having detrimental effects on the health of the community.

Our goal of 5,000* dollars would completely fund a well that would provide year-round clean water. One hundred percent of your donations will go towards the tools, building materials, transportation, and local labor required as well as a solar power system to keep the well functioning.

* New goal of $8,000. See update page for the breakdown of additional services we will be providing!
