Provide Christmas for FCC orphanage in Haiti

Hi! My name is Jase Wanlass, and this Christmas Season I am raising funds to provide Christmas for Foyer Coin des Cieux (FCC) School and Orphanage in Saint Marc, Haiti. For the last 6 months, I've had the privilege of mentoring Wilmy, a happy, recently turned 16 year old who lives at the facility. I meet with Wilmy weekly to give him the opportunity to use his English. We read English books together, work on his English homework, or address questions he has in other school subjects, such as math. We work hard, learn with each other, and laugh often. Currently, we are reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and we laugh together frequently while reading the awkward experiences of Greg Heffley.

In 2017, I had the incredible opportunity to accompany my father on a visit to Haiti, where he had served as a Latter-day Saint missionary 30 years earlier. Exploring the same areas and meeting the people he encountered during his mission were some of the best experiences of my life. I developed a love for the Haitian people which I continue to foster through my relationship with Wilmy.

Each week Wilmy greets me with a big smile and asks, "How are you, Teacher Jase?" He's ambitious and loves to improve. He's smart and capable. Most of all, he's kind. I'm proud of him and of all the children at FCC school and orphanage.

This Christmas, the non-profit organization, Pathways to English is fundraising to provide Christmas for the children at FCC school and orphanage. Each child will receive a pair of shoes, clothes, a toy/doll, and hygiene products!

Additionally, Pathways to English will provide Christmas for the most needy families in FCC’s neighborhood. This will include food for 2 days, hygiene products, and a toy for the children!

Their goal is $8,000, and as of today (December 7th) they have raised $3,000.

My hope is to raise $2,000 in an effort to help them reach their overall goal of $8,000. I ask family, friends, and others to help, in anyway possible, in providing Christmas for these kids and their neighbors in need.

“These moments of uncertainty continue to create chaos and make life in Haiti more difficult than it is. We still continue to pray that the circumstances will one day improve. However these kids are just kids so they don’t understand the situation. We hope to continue to provide great experiences and help them continue to enjoy their childhood, especially at Christmas time. Although the situation in the country has changed, we want to continue to celebrate Christmas and also help those in the neighborhood who are in great need. The prices in Haiti have changed drastically and even basic necessities are hard to find; however we are determined to create a great experience.”
