Help Bring Comfort and Calm to the Children of The Promise School, Okehampton

Following the devastating fire at The Promise School in Okehampton, the children have experienced sudden and unexpected disruption to their safe and familiar learning environment.

While we are incredibly grateful that no one was physically hurt, the emotional impact on the pupils — many of whom have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) — has been significant.

For children with SEND, routine, structure and familiar surroundings are not just helpful — they are essential. Sudden change can feel overwhelming and unsettling.

This fundraiser has been created with one clear and meaningful aim:

To provide every one of the school’s 80 pupils with a sensory book or a mindfulness-themed book from Usborne.

These carefully chosen books are designed to support emotional regulation, reduce anxiety and provide calming interaction. Sensory books offer soothing engagement, while mindfulness books gently help children understand and manage their feelings during times of change.

Our target is £500, which works out at just over £6 per child.

A small amount can make a meaningful difference.

Each child will receive a book they can keep — something comforting, reassuring and positive during an uncertain time.

I am organising this fundraiser as a local Independent Usborne Partner, and all funds raised will go directly towards purchasing these books specifically for the children of The Promise School.
