Due to the federal government shutdown, millions of children and families are at risk of losing SNAP food benefits and may become even more food insecure—including families in our community at Chief Sealth International High School in West Seattle. Students are eligible for two free meals per day during the school week, but many are now at risk of going hungry over the weekend, when those resources (and SNAP) are not as available to them. That's why we (staff members at Chief Sealth International Highschool) are raising money to provide "after-school snack packs" that students can bring home for themselves and family members. The snack packs will include shelf-stable and ready-to-make meals and snacks. We'll make them available at the Teen Health Center in the school and students can take them as needed, no questions asked. If you are looking for ways to help out your community during the shutdown, please consider donating!
