The Gift Of Manhood / England to Africa

The Road To The Gambia

“It is to build strong children than to repair broken men” - Frederick Douglas.

We need your help Family!!!

Help Us To Take A Group Of 20 Teenagers To Africa For A 12 Day Rites of Passage Transformational Trip So They Can Learn About Manhood, Their Culture, Heritage, Develop A Sense Of Tradition, Self Love And Direction.

We know What Is Happening Within Our Community. Knife Crime Has SKY ROCKETED. Teenage Deaths Across The Western Hemisphere Is Heart Wrenching.

We want to turn our sons into strong, successful men.

We want our sons,  to have a strong moral compass. We want our sons to have a successful passage into MANHOOD instead of dying or injuring others whilst looking for manhood in the wrong places.

“Theres nobody to guide through the process of becoming a explain to them the meaning of manhood. And that is a recipe for disaster” Barack Obama

It is now 2020 and talking about manhood has become more difficult than ever. Manhood has become misunderstood and misinterpreted. So much so, that society believes that's something awful is happening to men. There are too many young boys getting sucked into the system (i.e. the streets, GANGS, prison), suicides are increasing at an alarming rate and this is something that we cannot sit back and allow to continue.

The future is scary.

This is why we want to take a group of 20 ALPHA MALES to The Gambia, West Africa, so they can become healthy and conscientious men. We want to take them to The Gambia so they can receive the Gift of Manhood, reconnect with their heritage, develop lifelong leadership skills, build lasting friendships with young people from around the world and become a global citizen.

Our Why?
The transition to MANHOOD, is very different for boys living in the UK. In this culture, boys typically are considered to have become men, when certain physical changes have occurred, or when they become part of a gang, get their first car, turn 21 or have their first sexual experience. London boys are expected to initiate themselves into MANhood. They are often left to adopt ideas of masculinity from TV or mainstream media.

These ideas are nothing but negative stereotypes, about how they want our sons to be. These stereotypes often are built on the ideas of power, greed, violence and irresponsibility and are reflected in toxic behaviours. Such behaviours include emotionlessness, extreme risk-taking, using violence to resolve conflict, grooming, resisting authority, drug abuse, seeing women as sexual objects and having multiple sexual partners.

The result of this being;
1) Knife crime
2) Suicide
3) Poor mental health
4) The school to prison pipeline etc.

Manhood Academy Global wants to challenge these stereotypes, as early as possible, because we want to help our children gain a healthy understanding of self (self-identity), learn positive responses to conflict and authority and develop respectful ways of relating to others. In order for our sons to make a successful transition into Manhood, they'll need to learn who they are and what it means to be a responsible man.

From London to Africa
The Year of Return 2021 - Rites of Passage trip to The Gambia, will give them specific knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to thrive in Adulthood/MANHOOD. We have chosen The Gambia, because it is renowned for its Rites Of Passage ceremonies. We have connected with amazing local people, who understand the needs of our sons, in order for us to deliver a ‘customised’ Rites Of Passage ceremony, inline with UK legislation (i.e. no circumcision, body markings etc).

The aim of taking our sons to a new environment, which is alien to their usual surroundings, is to explore and experience a space entreached in authenticity. This new environment (space), will provide a healing process for group bonding and communication, allow expression of creativity, help towards self development and improve mental health. Being in a new environment will inevitably force them to focus upon their specific fears, which will consequently lead to them reassessing their purpose, with no distractions from negative external factors.  Africa is a continent for the future. Africa and the world are the ideal places for our children, not only to become men, but to reconnect them to the robust and unexplored wealth, that this landmass has to offer. We want our children to become ethical leaders, that not only think and act globally, but make an impact globally and locally.

“It takes a village to raise a child," HOWEVER, if the village does not initiate that child into adulthood, that child will burn down the village, just to feel it's warmth. As you can imagine, accomplishing this mission, will not only take on-going and unwavering sacrifices from the mentors (father figures), but will also require resources.
