My name is Joel Hollingsworth, and I run Smoke River Ranch—a place built on the belief that communities should have a direct hand in their own food supply. In reality, herdshares are about real animals and represent a straightforward cattle boarding contract, not a financial instrument. This challenge threatens not only our ranch, but the broader idea that people should be able to support and participate in local food systems without facing unnecessary regulatory burdens or government overreach.
