Protecting Her Children: A Mother's Plea

I am reaching out in a desperate plea for support during the most challenging time of my life. My journey has been filled with hardships, driven by my desire to create a safe and loving environment for my children. For privacy and safety, names and faces will remain hidden.

Years ago and as a teen mother, I moved across the country seeking a better life. I thought I had found a supportive partner, but his behavior shifted to control and financial abuse after we had a child together. Isolated and dependent, I launched a grassroots initiative gifting free plants to marginalized individuals, which helped me build community support. However, after I gained confidence and left him, I opened a shop, only to face serious illness and then anonymous racist threats that forced me to close it.

During that time, I also discovered concerning messages between my ex-partner and my oldest child, prompting me to seek professional guidance. Unfortunately, my ex filed a custody case against me, making serious allegations and using his extreme financial privilege paired with manipulation abilities to gain an advantage. A police investigation confirmed my fears about the relationship between my ex and my child, and I have been fighting for my children's safety ever since.

As a low-income, Black, protective mother facing a wealthy white male, our fight for justice has been nearly impossible. My ex weaponizes the legal system and uses systemic racial biases against me, exacerbating my financial strain. My youngest daughter has special needs, making childcare difficult while I work, and I struggle to pay ongoing attorney fees.

I need to pay my attorneys $4,000 by March 6th to keep them on my case, with another payment of at least $6,000 (likely higher) due on March 15th. Our final court date is March 25th and I just need to make it through with extra support until then. Anything above this goal will go towards life bills, which have always been extremely hard to keep up with throughout the past year.

I have always managed to get by and navigate difficult obstacles throughout my life, but I cannot do this one alone. I am asking for your help to cover the legal fees necessary for my fight for safety and justice. Every donation, no matter how small, will bring my family closer to peace and stability as we try for a fresh start.
