Protect The Tuscola Area Airport
Donation protected
The Friends of the Tuscola Area Airport, Inc. was formed to protect the future safety and economic viability of the Tuscola Area Airport (KCFS airport designation). The Tuscola Area Airport, in existence since 1935, serves over 100 businesses in the county and, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the Airport contributes over $4,000,000 to our local economy and 50 jobs.
Turbines in the immediate area surrounding the airport will have a chilling effect on the safety of those who use the airport, as well as future growth.
Your donation to support the Tuscola Area Airport helps fund the Airport Zoning Board of Appeals’ (AZBA) defense of the airport against NextEra Energy Resource's heavy-handed lawsuits and their apparent attempt to weaponize the legal system. The AZBA has (we believe correctly) denied NextEra's request for variances to construct 33 (nearly 500 ft tall) industrial wind turbines in close proximity to the airport because those turbines would fundamentally alter the take-off/landing and operating procedures that pilots use at the Tuscola Area Airport, placing pilots, passengers and those that live and work in the area at risk. The number of flying days enjoyed by both sporting and commercial pilots would be decreased.
We believe that our local Circuit Court judge has incorrectly applied Michigan law and the Tuscola Area Airport Zoning Ordinance to this situation. This Circuit Court Judge has repeatedly sided with NextEra and/or its leaseholders. The Michigan Court of Appeals has already overturned one of this judge’s incorrect decisions. We are hopeful that the Michigan Court of Appeals will once again see the clear error in the Circuit Court's decision.
The Friends of the Tuscola Area Airport are raising money to support the AZBA's appeal to the Michigan Court of Appeals.
This case will be a test for the limits of wind energy companies' ability to impose their will upon rural airports across the nation.
We ask for your help not only for our little community, but for all at-risk local airports across the country.
Please help us protect the future of our Tuscola Area Airport (KCFS), an airport that is part of the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS), and all at-risk local airports across the country.
