Hi, my name is Chad and I'm fund raising to protect White Elephant Hall. The historic White Elephant Hall in Cody Nebraska is in danger. It does not have property insurance. If something catastrophic happens to the hall it will not be replaced. American Legion Post 319 (a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization) owns the White Elephant and is not able to make the insurance payments. Post 319 simply does not have the members or the income resources to pay for insurance.
Property insurance is $3723
The post gets it's income from 3 sources; membership dues, fundraisers, and donations which total about $2140.00 per year. It’s expenses are around $1392.00 per year (which includes liability insurance).
A quick look at the math and it is plain to see the legion can not afford a $3723.00 increase to its yearly operating budget.
Our plan to protect the White Elephant hall is to create a money market account and put enough money in it that we can use the interest to pay for the yearly insurance premium. Current saving rates are around 5%. Using a conservative figure of 3%. A savings account with $130,000 will return $3,900.
Our goal is to raise $130,000.00
The White Elephant hall was built in 1928 as a dance hall. Through the ages it has hosted hundreds of dances and events for the community. It is said that Lawrence Welk once played there. The hall is used for a variety of events; funerals, meetings, dances, banquets, wedding receptions, graduation receptions, basketball and volleyball practice. It has seen several upgrades throughout the years. The floor has a basketball quality shine, the kitchen had cabinets, stove, hot water heater installed and is fully furnished. The main hall recently had new wall panels installed.
The White Elephant Hall is an iconic landmark. If something happens to this building and it can’t be replaced the community will loose a much needed facility. We hope you that you will be able to help us insure that if this building is destroyed that it can be rebuilt. Thank you
