Help support a legal challenge to ensure fair, transparent elections for the Tahltan Nation.
Serious concerns about irregularities in the 2025 TCG election were never investigated, despite years of members calling for reform. Fair elections are essential to protecting our lands, waters, and fish for future generations. Your contribution will help fund a Supreme Court case to uphold democratic rights, accountability, and the future of Tahltan Nation.
Support Fair and Transparent Elections for the Tahltan Nation
My name is Beverly Slater, and my Tahltan name is Mes̱dẕī. I am the daughter of Marjorie Campbell and granddaughter of Una and Richard Campbell of the Dekama family. I stand as a proud Tahltan woman committed to
transparency, accountability, and integrity within our Nation’s governance. I am grateful to have the support of many Tahltan’s who stand with me in this challenge. Their faith, wisdom, and courage empower me in this fight for truth and fairness.
Why I Am Bringing This Forward
In 2025, I challenged the Tahltan Central Government (TCG) Election after witnessing serious issues that raised deep concerns about whether the voting process was fair, secure, or properly managed. These concerns included:
• Unsecured ballots left exposed in an open office.
• Repeated warnings to both the Election Officer and TCG’s legal counsel that were ignored before the vote concluded.
• Members turned away because records falsely showed they had already voted online.
• No ID verification at in-person voting stations.
• Several issues with Voting Pins.
Despite multiple formal complaints to Tahltan Central Government, no independent investigation was ever launched. These issues matter because the TCG makes decisions that affect our people, our lands, our waters, and our future generations. When elections are not conducted properly, trust is broken, and the legitimacy of those decisions is called into question.
A Call for Long-Overdue Reform
Tahltan members have been asking for change for years. At the 2022 Annual General Assembly, our membership passed a resolution calling for:
• A Tahltan Election Committee
• A formal Election Code to guide future elections
These important reforms—meant to protect our democratic process—were never implemented. Now, the same flawed procedures are being used again, including for a very important upcoming vote on the Skeena Eskay Creek Impact Benefit Agreement, which carries major environmental, cultural, and social implications for our Nation.
Before decisions of this magnitude move forward, the system must be fixed.
What This Legal Action Seeks
This case, brought before the Supreme Court of British Columbia, aims to:
• Set aside the 2025 TCG Election.
• Ensure full accountability and transparency in Tahltan elections.
• Implement the long-promised Election Code and establish the Election Committee.
• Protect the rights, voices, and votes of all Tahltan members.
• Restore trust in an electoral system meant to serve every member of our Nation.
How Your Support Helps

Every contribution—big or small—helps protect the democratic rights of the Tahltan Nation and supports a precedent for Indigenous communities across Canada seeking fairness, transparency, and self-determined governance.
This is more than a Tahltan issue. It is a call to action for anyone who believes in fair elections, accountable leadership, and informed decision-making—especially when those decisions affect our lands, waters, fish, and future generations.
Meduh for standing with us and helping restore integrity to our democratic process.
