Protect Seniors From Dramatic Property Tax Hikes
Mashpee Tax Cap Advocates (MTCA) is a new Mashpee community group working to protect ALL Mashpee seniors from debilitating property tax spikes of up to 50%+. We propose a 10% senior tax cap per year to smooth out home sale price and tax anomalies. Accordingly, our attorney has prepared a town warrant article for a May town vote. We need your support to allow our senior residents to remain in their homes.
Mashpee Tax Cap Advocates maintains that Mashpee's total approved town tax revenue will not be affected by this town warrant article and therefore have no effect whatsoever on town services.
The pandemic caused some people to flee the city and led to a significant runup in Mashpee home sale prices. Unfortunately, Mashpee then used these relatively few sales to raise home assessments across large swaths of homes formulaically and especially in predominantly senior communities. We do not want seniors forced out.
Nobody should be issued 50%+ tax increases, especially without warning. But unfortunately, town officials have signaled intent to implement another devastating tax hike next year, based on a few known new sales. Who will be next?
First, let's protect our seniors with a 10% tax cap. Let's also show ground-level support that NOBODY, regardless of age, should see a 50%+ tax increase just because a neighbor sold their house at a premium last year and fled.
Please donate whatever you can ASAP; it will make a difference. We need your help.
These donations collected by MTCA are used purely and frugally for legal and direct support of the May town warrant article's 10% cap vote. MTCA members are unpaid Mashpee volunteers. MTCA will donate unused funds, if any, to The Mashpee Senior Center.
