DESPERATELY NEED LEGAL HELP

URGENT UPDATE: 12/19

Things have become a nightmare. River’s father is now withholding him. He is currently at a hotel and we have no idea where he is. He filed AGAIN for emergency custody and there was a hearing yesterday. It’s just a blatant misuse of the legal system because he KNOWS she has no legal representation. She went this morning to get a break down of how much we need. Because it is a contested custody, the retainer is $4000. We have posted the quote in the pictures. This doesn’t include any filing fees. It’s a lot. But we can get there. We know God will make a way. Thank you to everyone who has already helped. You have no idea how much it means. We are just devastated right now.

Let me introduce you (if you don’t know him) to my grandson River. He is SO special. I know all grandparents think so, but he truly is. Smart, quirky, and adorable, he’s the light of all our lives. And then, this is my daughter Hannah. She is AMAZING! She’s intelligent, creative, and the hardest worker I’ve ever seen. She has overcome more than she should have had to, and she’s become the mother I couldn’t be. She is patient, kind, and understanding. And she understands her son the way only another person on the spectrum can. He shines and thrives under her care the way he doesn’t anywhere else.

Right now though, her ex has set out to gain custody of River. And he’s in a unique situation to do so. You see, both his parents are attorneys. Our family doesn’t have the same resources his does, nor the money or legal knowledge, frankly. Despite his resources, her ex decided to go to legal aid first, leaving her (a substantially less earning person than him) without the ability to be eligible for it, due to “conflict of interest.”

This is NOT a fight to keep him from his father. This is to maintain EQUAL time, and give River the opportunity to see BOTH his parents. Right now he is being used to continue controlling behavior. Even though Hannah has done everything to facilitate equal relationships. All she wants is peace.

So this is my desperate plea. To help her retain a family court attorney. We don’t have a lot of time. There is a court hearing on Nov. 14th, and as much as I believe in people, our court system is very flawed and favors whoever has the most resources. She can’t fight this without a lawyer.

So if you would like to help in ANY way you can, we would be eternally grateful. Whether prayer, money to help, or even if you are able to render legal services, please do or reach out. She is River's safe space. It would be the WORST injustice if he lost that. We are desperate for help and guidance.
