Protect Our Black Legacy Farm's Future

Recently USDA funding cuts ended a federally funded program that not only would have generated millions of dollars in resources for the state of Alabama but would have allowed us personally to sustain our 200 year old 66 acre farm off the Gulf Coast of Alabama. Our farm, although no longer a working farm is a Black Legacy Farm with a history spanning multiple generations. In order to make the farm sustainable, a considerable investment needs to be made to; protect the forested wetlands inundated by invasive plant and animal species, to develop the non-wetland timber areas for sustainable harvesting and to prepare the crop lands for farming. Farms like ours face unique challenges due to historic discrimination in lending practices and access to resources, but also embody resilience and a commitment to sustainable practices and community food security.

Without the funding that we had been approved for, we simply do not have the resources to maintain such a huge project. We need your help, no matter how small. Thank you.
