It’s me Aja, and I’m PREGNANT AF!
Still in disbelief that I get two miracles in my one precious life. Rebel Joy is gonna be a big sibling!!
Sadly, capitalism has commodified everything, including miracles. Me and the bubses are gonna need community support for a healthy birth and post partum. It is a tender time for a mama and cubs and as an only parent, this type of support is even more impactful in assuring our thriving and safety.
As a black woman, I am 3 to 4 times more likely to die in childbirth in America than a white birther. This holds true across class and education. It is vital that I have the support of a culturally competent and experienced Doula at my birth to advocate for me and baby, it is quite literally a matter of life and death. It is also vital that birthworkers be compensated at a living wage, so they may thrive and be sustained to do life-giving and life-saving work.
I am also raising funds to fairly compensate postpartum and sibling doulas for the postpartum period. Every new parent needs and deserves support from family and community, many new parents rely on grandparents and extended family to support with older sibling care, chores, meals, etc. during the postpartum time. As someone who's healing has unfortunately meant estrangement from my family of origin, I will need to garner that support elsewhere!
Funds raised will go to:
living wage compensation for birth doula $3,500
living wage compensation for postpartum doula $3,500
living wage compensation for sibling doula for birth and postpartum $3,500
gofundme fees $1000
Thank you. None of us can do this alone, any contribution you make is received with gratitude and a prayer that your support will be reflected back to you, multiplied.
Love
