In Troy, NY, Black and Brown teens are being targeted, stopped, and brutalized by police. The mayoral administration is giving them cover, using a thin excuse:
“They’re riding bikes without lights.”
At least five teens have already been brutalized this year alone, some suffering lasting injuries and emotional trauma. This is state-sanctioned violence against our kids for moving through their own neighborhoods — and we’re terrified that the next case won’t just be harm, but a life lost. Instead of using a tiny fraction of the $35 million police budget to distribute lights, the city government is directing the Troy Police to spread terror and trauma.
We refuse to wait. We’re raising lights, awareness, and networks of safety.
Here’s where your donation will go:
Bike lights for teens to remove the “no lights” excuse.
A community cookout and celebration centering our kids’ joy, freedom, and brilliance.
A safe ride-out, reclaiming the streets with visibility, safety, and collective pride.
This is a community call, Troy Bike Rescue and Troy 4 Black Lives are collaborating — but we need YOU.
Donate, share, and connect with us. Help keep our kids safe, free, and whole.
