On 06/12/20, former employees of Hoosier Heights Climbing Gyms LLC (Climb Nulu, Climb Cincy, Hoosier Heights Indianapolis, and Hoosier Heights Bloomington) came forward to speak out about their experiences under the management of the Chief Financial Officer and owner. Deeply racist, sexist, and transphobic views came to light. Employee exploitation, and inappropriate situations of the CFO having sex in his office was exposed.
The fallout of this resulted in the company closing all of its locations, abruptly, and indefinitely. This means that every floor staff, route setter, hold washer, facility manager, yoga instructor, and team member are once again without employment, when the facilities had just re-opened from the pandemic. Unemployment has been extremely difficult for many to manage and payment access has been delayed. Their staff did not deserve the exploitative treatment they were receiving, and they did not deserve to be tossed to the side, with no care for how they will survive.
This GoFundMe was created for the staff of Hoosier Heights Climbing LLC, who were abruptly laid off on Friday night after having been brought back to work from COVID-19 closures two weeks prior. I personally used to work for this company (2016-2018), and the upper management, in numerous staffs’ experiences, has treated many of us carelessly. Several of these people are friends to me, and are entirely without money or unemployment benefits. This campaign is to help them get through until their unemployment can be applied for and approved. There are three facilities that have experienced layouts. I have created a form through survey monkey for all staff to fill out, detailing their needs and financial status at this time. I will be sending money to the staff with the greatest risk first and getting them the amount they need to cover rent, groceries, etc. If there are staff that aren’t in desperate need, myself and team working on this want to take care of those that are in desperate need first. When those people are cared for, we will evenly split the rest of the funds and distribute it to all other staff that have contacted us. Because there are so many recipients, I will have to deposit it to my personal bank account and send the money out through Cash App, Venmo, or PayPal, to the staff members. I will be taking screenshots of all transactions, and can present those to any donor that would like them. If you would like to discuss this in detail, please message me through GoFundMe.
