The Story
We have always said "Yes" to you. Now, we need you to say "Yes" to us.
For 15 months, Gentle Landing Birth Center has been fighting a silent battle. While our midwives have been welcoming babies, supporting families through postpartum, and launching new food security programs, we have been simultaneously fighting for our financial life against a broken insurance system.

The Crisis
Today, we are at a breaking point. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield—the insurer that covers over 80% of our families—has failed to process our facility claims correctly for 15 months. Despite our valid contract, our meticulous billing, and our constant advocacy, they are withholding $60,000 in legitimate payments for care we have already provided.
Because of this systemic failure:
- Our facility bank account has been drained to just $643.
- We are $13,000 behind on rent, solely because the revenue we earned is being held hostage by red tape.
- We are facing the heartbreaking reality of closing our doors—not because we aren't busy, but because we aren't being paid.
Why This Matters
Gentle Landing is the only freestanding birth center option for families in a wide swath of the Upper Valley (NH/VT). We are a safety net for low-risk families, a community hub for postpartum support, and a actual food shelf for those in need.
If we close, that choice disappears. Families will lose their trusted providers, and the Upper Valley will lose a vital healthcare resource.
How You Can Help We are launching this emergency fundraiser to bridge the gap while we fight for the payments we are owed. We need to raise $35,000 immediately to:
- Pay Our Rent: Clear the $13,000 backlog to secure our facility.
- Keep the Lights On: Cover utilities, supplies, and staff payroll for the next 60 days while we escalate our legal and public pressure on Anthem.
- Protect Our Programs: Ensure our new Food Shelf and Partner Support Group can continue without interruption.
The "David vs. Goliath" Fight
It is a profound irony that while Anthem holds our money, they send us letters demanding "recoupments" within days. They have the resources to take, but apparently not the capacity to give.
We are done suffering in silence. We are going public, and we are asking our community to stand with us.
Please donate what you can to keep Gentle Landing open. Help us prove that community care is worth saving.
