Protect More of Bailey Mountain

The Town of Mars Hill has entered into an option to purchase the West property of 75 acres adjacent to the Smith Farm of Bailey Mountain Preserve off Forest St in Mars Hill, North Carolina.

The purpose of this acquisition is to further expand and protect the Bailey Mountain Preserve; to protect the beauty and integrity of Bailey Mountain and to prevent development which may be adverse to the community’s goal of greenspace and greenway protection; to expand upon the existing recreational and educational opportunities offered by the Bailey Mountain Preserve; and to expand upon the economic benefits currently being realized by the Town of Mars Hill and Madison County, as a hiking and recreation destination.

Once acquired, the West Farm will be placed into a conservation easement to protect it from future development. The Richard L. Hoffman Foundation will fundraise as a party to the purchase contract and representative of the Town of Mars Hill.
