Help Parasol Patrol Shield Kids from Westboro
Parasol Patrol is a nonprofit organization dedicated to shielding children and young people from hate at LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC events. Using umbrellas, we create a physical shield to protect kids from the hateful signs and speech brought by protesters. For the youngest among us, we provide noise-canceling ear protection so they don’t have to hear the cruel and angry shouts amplified through bullhorns. Our goal is simple but profound: to show these kids that their community loves and supports them—not in spite of who they are, but because of who they are.
We're traveling to Los Angeles to shield students and community members from the Westboro Baptist Church. If you're unfamiliar with the WBC, they are officially recognized as a Hate Group by both the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti Defamation League. A quick search of their website will tell you why.
This trip will be intense. WBC is targeting a high school, two open and affirming churches, the Museum of Tolerance and the Holocaust Museum. These are places of learning, faith and reflection— spaces that should be free from hate.
Unfortunately, our financial resources have been stretched thin. The Director of Legislation at Gays-Against-Groomers —who is also a convicted felon— fraudulently cut off many of our donation streams, making it harder for us to continue our work.
