My name is Joey Wesselman. I am 14 years old. I was born in China and my family adopted me when I was 8 years old. I was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome, that means when I was in the womb I was tangled in fiber bands that stopped my leg and fingers from growing. In China, I did not have a prosthetic leg and could not do activities that I wanted to do. When my family adopted me they were able to get me a prosthetic leg. I need a new one every year because I am growing. This leg allows me to walk and do some activities. I love to run and I am in the running club at my middle school. We are training for the L.A. Marathon. Unfortunately, my leg does not allow me to run long distances. I need a running leg because the prosthetic leg that I currently wear will give me really bad blisters. I ran 4 miles with my current leg and my blisters were so bad that I was not able put my leg on until they healed. Our health insurance does not cover a running leg, it only pays for a portion of my regular leg. We found out that the cost of a running leg is $14,000. Innovative Prosthetic Solutions, Inc. informed me that they will donate $5000 toward my running leg. Now it's up to me and my family to try and raise the remaining $9000.
I am reaching out to family and friends to please help me reach my goal. This would make me so happy! Any donation would be greatly appreciated.
