Hello! My name is Haley Wetterauer and I am a Life Scout in central Georgia. From a young age I have read and been inspired by great literature– fiction and non-fiction alike. Books have not only fostered my creativity, but have expanded my knowledge and given me access to diverse perspectives, and endless entertainment.
As I continue my educational career, however, I have noticed a lack of reading in my age group. In fact Georgia’s literacy rate is below the national average, with 1 in 10 adults having low literacy skills and 56% of third graders not reading proficiently in 2023.
In an effort to combat this, for my Eagle Scout Project, I want to place at least three “little free libraries” in readily available locations for young children to access. Additionally I have gotten approval to build and install a book cart in my local hospital. My goal is to promote a love for reading in children by providing access to a diverse range of books in many genres.
The $2000 I am asking for will cover 3 unfinished libraries kits, the necessary supplies to built the cart, and all paint needed.
Thank you so much for your donations!
