Project 360 Youth Services Kickoff
Donation protected
I live in Laclede County Missouri. Until a few weeks ago, I was unaware that we have a large number of young people who are homeless. They have been invisible to me and others because as teens, they work harder to fit in with their peers who are not homeless and because as teens they are less willing to disclose their homelessness to their peers, teachers and the people they encounter every day.
We do not have services in Laclede County for homeless and at-risk youth. Yet. Today, I join my dear friend Patti Brayfield and nearly a dozen others to sign the bylaws that signify the inception of Project 360 Youth Services.
In the weeks ahead we will apply for our 501c3 status, identify building space, and meet with area youth. We will collaborate with churches, other non-profits and community leaders to bring a much-needed drop-in center for our homeless youth.
Our intent is to provide a safe place where teens can take a shower, wash clothes, eat a hot meal, have a place to do homework and to meet with volunteers who encourage their efforts to meet academic and life goals.
Although we have a great deal of work ahead of us, we have the strong support of school leaders, the community, and most importantly Laclede County's young people.
This Project is especially committed to providing services without judgement of life circumstances and choices, race, gender, faith, or sexual orientation.
Next week, we meet with area youth who will become a part of the planning process and who will help guide us in making the most thoughtful decisions.
Please help me provide an opportunity to the young person who needs it. Without aplology, a heavy heart or hesitation, I solicit you directly for your financial help. Whether $5 or $500, every cent will count and go directly toward our first goal of building space.
Warmest Regards,
Deb
P.S. Thanks to everyone for your birthday wishes. The best part of being this age (?) is knowing that it is never too late to start something new.
