Project 111 is a group home development project for adults with disabilities.

If you have been a resident of Morton at any point in the past 25 years, you may have had an experience with my brother Trevor.  You may have seen him as a child, walking down Jefferson Street wearing my mom’s clothing and high heels, or sitting on the curb several weeks before Pumpkin Festival, waiting for the parade to begin.  You may have seen him riding his three-wheeled bike to Dairy Queen, or bowling a Safari Lanes.  You may have seen him at the high school, showing off his dance moves at Prom or a school assembly dance competition.  Today, you might see him working for my dad at Colby Natural Health, bussing tables at the Downtown Diner, or with his peers in a community excursion.

Trevor is a 25-year-old adult with Down Syndrome, but his disability doesn’t prevent him from having the same kinds of experiences the rest of us encounter.  What's his next big milestone?  Moving out of mom and dad’s home.

My parents own a house in Morton, 111 E. Jefferson St., which we are working hard to convert into a group home for Trevor and up to four other adults with disabilities, who will be able to live there with intermittent supports.  The home, although a sound structure, is being updated and remodeled to provide appropriate access for individuals with disabilities.

Among the renovations include:
· Remodeling of the main bathroom to allow for wheelchair access
· Upgrading the electric and plumbing
· Adding Central A/C
· Basement remodeling includes one bathroom, bedroom, laundry, workout room and a family room
· Updating kitchen cabinetry and countertops
· Refinish existing hardwood floors
· Improving the house’s energy efficiency with new basement windows and insulation
· New paint throughout

Wish-list items include: (things we would do if they are directly donated or we exceed our funding goal!)
· A new front porch with a wheelchair-access ramp
· A privacy fence for the side yard
· New appliances:  fridge, dishwasher, microwave, washer & dryer

This is where we need your help!  We have enlisted the help of business partners who have generously offered their goods and services at discounted rates.  Despite that, the renovations are still very costly, and we are kindly asking for donations to help offset the costs of this incredible rennovation.

Your donation will not only help Trevor acheive his housing dream, but it will also have a huge impact on the lives of Trevor's living companions.  In Illinois, there is a great need for housing for adults with disabilities, and this project strives to address that need.

Donations can be made here, or you can send donations by check directly to Project 111 at 111 E. Jefferson St., Morton, IL 61550.

We also need volunteers!  A lot of the work is done, but the last 10% is 90% of the work!  Contact us for volunteering information.

Move in day is July 1, so there's no time to waste!  Help us give Trevor and his roomates a full and independent life in a home that they can be proud of.
