Project Wonky Picnic Bench: Calstock, Cornwall

As many locals and visitors have noticed, the benches on the green in Calstock have come to the end of their useful lives. Since they were donated to the village by Calstock Bike Show many years ago, these tables have offered local and visiting families/friends a welcome place to relax, unwind, enjoy a picnic or a pint, and take in the stunning views of the river Tamar. They've been fixed up many times in the past, but even so, they are now very wonky (and a treacherous place to leave your pint!). This is the only public seated area in the village, and as a vital central point in our community, we decided that it needed an upgrade.

Initiated by Calstock Lights, representatives from local organisations and businesses have come together to pool resources and raise the necessary funds to install at least eight different sized brand-new, quality picnic benches. They will each comfortably seat four to eight people, and will serve the community, its locals and many visitors for many years to come. The tables cost approx £350 each, including VAT and delivery, and local volunteers have agreed to build them in situ. They will be movable to offer full flexibility for larger events and to take care of the new grass that Calstock in Bloom has recently added.

We all know that Calstock is a community that gets things done, so we're in no doubt that we can make this happen too. We are approaching local organisations for contributions, and we're also hosting this Crowdfunder to allow you to throw some money in the pot too.

Note: 100% of donated funds will go directly into the Calstock Lights business account and will be available for anyone to inspect on request. Any additional donations in excess of the target will be used to purchase additional benches or be donated to a local cause.
