Project #SendMYLove: Financially Aiding Malaysians in Need

No one should go to sleep hungry. Based on the current prevalence of food insecurity, an estimated 9.76 million or 30% of the Malaysian population is expected to suffer from food insecurity due to the COVID-19 pandemic (Unicef, Nov 2020). That’s almost 1 in 3 Malaysians who will require financial support for their daily necessities including food and personal care products.

With Project #SendMYLove we are hoping to raise awareness of the daily struggles millions of Malaysians are facing today and help people have warm meals on their plate, one family at a time.

Who we are supporting

Project #SendMYLove are fundraising for two NGOs whom we have verified as initiatives that are committed to alleviate the financial uncertainty of those who really need it.

1. Hunger Hurts

Hunger Hurts is a non-government organisation registered under the Registrar of Societies (ROS) under the name of Persatuan Sukarelawan Membasmi Kebuluran Malaysia. Their mission is to systematically reduce the rate of urban and rural poverty in Malaysia.

Project #SendMYLove has chosen to channel funds collected to Hunger Hurts’ Grocery Aid Boxes, in which they partner with RUN-cit, a platform that delivers home supplies to doorsteps thus reaching out to those in need all across Malaysia. A standard Grocery Aid Box is worth RM110 which translates into essential groceries that include rice, sugar, sardine, eggs and other essential food items.

2. Happy Bank Crew

Happy Bank is a non-profit volunteer-based organisation that is driven by passionate, committed and multi-talented youths of all backgrounds with the aim to support and help the underprivileged and socially neglected community in Malaysia.

Project #SendMYLove is supporting Happy Bank’s Tengok Jiran Kita programme, an initiative to help the beneficiaries with the basic necessities and the other parties involved along the way (hawkers, shopkeepers, local runners/riders) with some extra income. Specifically, we are supporting the ‘Hot Meals’ and 'Food Basket' initiatives.

Hot Meals: Happy Bank helps the local sellers by purchasing their food for RM 5 per packet and distributing it to nearby areas.

Food Basket: Happy Bank Crew is distributing Food Baskets worth a minimum of RM50, which includes food and necessities, such as eggs, rice, and instant noodles to each family/individual in need. Milk and diapers for babies and hygiene kits will also be provided if required.

Who we are

We are a group of Malaysians living overseas who are fortunate enough to lead a healthy and privileged life. Barred by geographical restrictions which limits our opportunities to return home, we hope to make an impact through financial aid by working with established NGOs to make sure support, in the form of foods and necessities, is channeled to the people in need. Therefore we started Project #SendMYLove where we work with NGOs back home to support our neighbours and communities in getting back onto their feet.

Note:
1. All GoFundMe donations are subject to a transaction fee (includes debit and credit charges) of 2.9% + £0.25 donation.
2. Each weekly transfer to NGOs is subject to a transfer cost (via Wise) which varies according to transfer amount. The campaign team will offset this cost with our personal donations and the breakdown will be clearly updated with bank transfer screenshots every week.
