Why Project Rachael? Principal of Linked, Craig Emerton, quickly responded to a ‘call to action’ placed on local social media by Rachael Leah Jackson, a Northern Beaches single mum who was supported by the Dalwood Spilstead Service during some of her darkest and most vulnerable times. Rachael experienced domestic violence and homelessness with her three children Leah, Madeline and Isaac, who has autism and an intellectual disability. Within a short space of time, Craig and the Linked team rallied a wide array of extremely generous consultants and suppliers to bring the project to fruition which includes donated services from a huge range of companies listed here*, affectionately naming it ‘Project Rachael’.
Originally from the UK and with no extended family in Australia, Rachael and her children were able to steer a clear path to the future through the support of Dalwood Spilstead. Providing a comprehensive range of services all in the one facility, Rachael’s family were given access to Therapeutic Pre-school, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Councillors, Psychologists, Physiotherapists and family support including volunteers that would visit their home weekly. It was this lifeline that has helped Rachael, Leah, Madeline and Isaac and so many other vulnerable children and families in crisis, build a road to recovery.
Project Rachael is one of many services to the community that Rachael Jackson has been committed to since her experience with Dalwood. Described as “undoubtedly one of the most giving people” in the Northern Beaches region, Rachael was awarded the NSW Government Community Service Award for outstanding contribution to the local community. Rachael focusses her energy, empathy and compassion advocating awareness and progression in the areas of domestic violence, mental illness, disability services and homelessness.
Project Rachael still needs valuable funds and support to complete the initiative so that Dalwood Spilstead House can continue to provide vulnerable children and their families improved kitchen and communal facilities – ultimately offering a light at the end of the tunnel for people like Rachael Jackson and her children.
We encourage the community’s valuable support, just as Rachael has committed her life to inclusivity, equality, kindness and empathy. In Rachael’s words, “It takes a community to reach out and pull someone out of the darkness”.
