I cannot believe it's been almost a year since getting last year's session of this project off the ground. The first iteration of Project Poetic Justice was a massive success with your support!! Now it's time for round two. You can read more about it at this WTOP news article or a blog post I wrote for the Peabody Institute Creative Wire.
Project Poetic Justice was created to harness the power of artistic expression to uplift, empower, and transform lives. In the first round, students collaborated with Poetry Teaching Artists from Johns Hopkins University and Resident Composers, Vocalists, and Pianists from the Peabody Institute. The project was a major success, thanks to the generosity of individuals and the support of organizations like the Petey Greene Program, Free Minds Book Club, and the Peabody Launchpad. While grant funding has helped cover logistical costs and offset the cost of tutors and performers, additional support is needed to ensure all composers are adequately compensated and to cover the costs associated with the Resident Pianist.
Your contribution will make a second round of this project possible for young individuals at the DC Jail who are excited to explore their creative talents. We plan to expand the program by bringing a visual arts component and making archival prints of the music and poetry available via the Peabody Music Library. Your support will help keep this momentum going and bring the transformative power of the arts to those who need it most.
