Help us kick-start Project Matriarchs—an initiative to support working moms during the pandemic!
Here's a bit about what we're up to:
The pandemic has put a disproportionate strain on working mothers. A large portion of moms have been forced to juggle childcare and distance learning in addition to their professional roles, causing many to consider reducing their hours or even quitting. This could mean jeopardizing their family's financial security and/or permanently sacrificing their careers. In this way, the pandemic threatens a reversion to sexist norms about a "woman's place." We don't think this has to be the case, so we're working on a virtual childcare/academic support service to combat this trend. We will use a sliding scale payment model (ie. pay what you can) to ensure financial inclusivity. We match college students with families according to fit, so moms can dedicate the time and energy to work they'd like to.
These funds will go directly towards subsidizing our service for mothers that can't pay $15 per hour—the amount we will be compensating our tutors. Your contribution will support our commitment to equity, which is at the center of our solution. We plan to partner with community organizations to reach moms who are especially vulnerable right now. Our longer-term goal is to appeal to corporations to provide our service as a benefit to their employees and opt into a 50/50 funding model in which they provide this service for their employees that need it as well as provide an equal contribution to subsidize this service for lower income mothers whose employers are not offering this kind of support.
