Hey there everyone,

Project Hydrus is an independently organized student-led charity project with the aim of supplying impoverished villages in Cambodia with clean drinkable water.  We have teamed up with the Cambodian Community Dream Organization to help us tackle this crisis and we need your help!

A beautiful nation ravaged by war, conflict, and a brutal regime left more than 2 million dead.  The effects are still seen today with 1 in 5 Cambodians without access to clean water.  This longlasting problem has been made a lot worse by the emergence of COVID-19 and we'd like to help fix this problem.

Fundraising Strategies:
Now you are probably thinking, $10,000 USD is a lot of cash but we have a plan.  Through corporate sponsorships, public donations, and the generosity of crowdfunding (GoFundMe), we plan to raise the money before our trip to Cambodia in October of 2020.  If you think your organization can help with large donations, please don't hesitate to contact us at [email redacted] or through our website.

COVID-19 Response:
With the coronavirus pandemic on the rise, clean water is vital for handwashing and drinking to minimize the risk of infection.  To aid in minimizing the spread, a part of the donation will go towards soap and other hygiene supplies as water alone cannot get rid of the virus.  Even a small part like ours can go a long way to stop thousands more from being infected.

With $10,000 USD, we will be able to help over 2000 people through the following ways:

- 500 Ceramic Filters ($15 USD for 1)
Lasting 4 years, these incredible filters are easy to use and highly effective.  Since they are easily maintainable, these filters will be distributed to families.  To avoid unnecessarily large shipping costs and to aid the local economy, the filters will be purchased from local producers and be coordinated by the CCDO.

- 4 LifeSaver™ JerryCans ($225 for 1)
These revolutionary water filters are attached to the spout of the jerry can, instantly cleaning water as poured.  Being able to filter up to 10,000 liters of water, these containers will be placed in 4 different schools to provide clean, drinkable water to the school children and teaching staff.

- 1980 Bars of Soap ($15 for 30)
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have introduced our special COVID-19 initiative where 10% of all donations will specifically be reserved to purchase soap and hygiene supplies.

The Cambodian Community Dream Organization:
The CCDO works to improve conditions in villages surrounding Siem Reap by implementing four main programs: Clean Water (wells, latrines, and hygiene), Education (English, Library & Computer), Health & Wellbeing (Nutrition and Sports). They are run by international volunteers and paid local staff as a non- political, non-religious organization. The CCDO is a small NGO making a big impact by tackling many important community issues.

Our Trip to Cambodia:
In October 2020, we will be traveling to Siem Reap to aid in the distribution of these filters but also to volunteer our time for 6 days.  There we will be performing various tasks such as distributing the filters, helping with hygiene workshops, and more.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated in our efforts to contribute to the solution of the Cambodian water crisis.

Sincerely,
