At School for Conductive Life we believe that a diagnosis doesn`t define anyone, but their habits do. With the Stand up for Cerebral Palsy Challenge we would like to invite people to practice an essential life skill: standing up from the floor as many times as possible, consistently for 31 days. This can be done with all and any ability level, with or without assistance or aid.
Depending on your ability level or determination you can choose from:
A, 1 minute stand-ups a day
B, 20 burpees a day
C, 50 burpees a day
D, 100 burpees a day
The purpose of the challenge is to show that if we stick with 1 single habit and practice it for as short as a minute a day for a month, progress will still appear - no matter of your age or diagnosis.
March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. It is important to know that cerebral palsy has no cure, however there are a lot can be done to positively manage the condition and prevent deterioration. But if you have been following our service for long enough, then you also know that there is always hope for improvement, but for any results we need to work hard.
If you haven`t heard of School for Conductive Life before, please read our story:
In 2014 we started a small therapy service for 8 children who had cerebral palsy or other movement disorders with the belief that regardless of diagnosis everyone can improve and progress towards greater potential. Our team works with the method called conductive education which is a Hungarian movement therapy that offers different learning strategies so our people can improve their physical, social and emotional skills and become as independent as possible.
Today our team work with over 65 families including those 8 who they originally started with. Many of these families heard in the past from medical professionals that their children will never be able to walk, talk or live independent lives. However, when these children received opportunities to try, learn and consistently practice the learnt skills they achieved seemingly impossible things. The thrill of our job is to experience those moments when our people realize that they can do much more then they would ever imagined.
How many burpees do you think you can do in March?
All donations big or small will be greatly appreciated and go towards early intervention group sessions and functional training sessions.
From the whole team at Conductive Life, thank you!
