Pride Beyond June: Artists Need You

A year ago, when I was a queerling, I couldn’t wait for Pride Month to roll around. Throughout the month of June, I felt empowered, appreciated, supported, and nurtured.

Sadly, at the end of June, a deepening state of sadness would roll in, and I would long for more connection and pride for the rest of the year.

I remember thinking, “Wouldn’t it be nice to have queer events scattered throughout the year? Someone should organize something!”

Today, as a full-grown queer adult, I’m stepping into that role and will be hosting a queer-centered, love-affirming, and gender-inclusive event during LGBTQIA+ History Month in October.

But community events are nothing without community members. That is why you are so important to this effort. Please save the date, consider submitting an artist’s application, and spread the word. And if you are able to financially support this effort, please do. Each event takes time, energy, and money. The main portion of your contribution will go towards independent artists, as their creativity, emotional labor, and vulnerability displayed in their art is incredibly valuable.
