As the Trump administration ramps up its mass deportation tactics, undocumented immigrant communities are experiencing an increased need for safety planning. For families with undocumented parents, this includes obtaining passports for children. Having passports allows children to travel to their parents, and protects against family separation, in the event that a parent is deported.
Many groups around the country have been supporting immigrant families to create safety plans and obtain passports for their children. In Hayward and Watsonville, groups of neighbors and community organizers have come together to help families with this task. Many of the families in this network have their safety plans and passport applications ready--the only barrier is the cost of $155 per passport.
We are holding this fundraiser to gather funds to cover passport application fees for 25 families. Some of the funds raised will go to families connected with Campesina Womb Justice in Watsonville. Some of the funds raised will go to families connected through a network of neighbors and community organizers in Hayward.
