Help Keep Our Family From Losing Our Home

My name is QaDirah. I'm a single mother of 3 amazing little boys ages 1 , 3 and 5. We moved to North Carolina in 2019, looking for a new start away from the financial burdens we were facing in New Jersey. When we moved to North Carolina, our landlord informed us that the home we were going into went through many renovations, when indeed, it had not. The house was over 100 years old and infested with lead so badly that it was even in the dust and soil in and around the home. My 3 year old developed led poisoning.

Immediately I knew we had to move and I received assistance in that from a gofundme started by one of my sisters and I couldn't be more greatful. With that assistance we were able to move into a nice home with a yard and no lead.

A few months later, my children and I started going through problems at our home. We had all caught covid, leading me to miss weeks of work and without covid protections, I was penalized for that and given warnings of termination. I was working from home and we came to quickly realize that the neighborhood was not the safest. We had multiple instances of individuals trying to break into our home causing issues with broken locks and doors, scaring my children to the point of not wanting to sleep at night and having night mares. There were times when cars would pull up to the side of our home and start shooting around our neighborhood, even causing a death to one of our neighbors.

I ended up being terminated from my job at the beginning of March due to noise complaints from callers/customers involving my children and even the gunshots from outside my window. I applied for job after job and even spoke with the homeowner about options for terminating our lease early so we can leave and live with my family in Ohio or NJ. I was informed that to break the lease I would have to pay all the prorated total amount from the date of lease break up until the lease end date which is October 13th.

I couldnt afford any of the options. I am now behind almost 3 months rent, with just starting a new job and not receiving an actual paycheck until June. As much as I want to give up and leave, I cannot allow us to be evicted and wouldn't want to ask for a lease termination amount of $12,520. I was given until June 5th to pay the past due balance. I am asking for any bit of help we can receive to help pay the past due balance and the balance that will be due in June so that I can start back fresh in July. And I know with my new position we will be fine.

Please, anything helps. Please help keep my family from being evicted and having to seek shelter. Please. Anything helps! Thank you so much!
