On March 25th, 2026, Cygames announced they would be ending service for their online collectible card game, "Shadowverse," on June 30th, 2026. The game first launched in 2016. In spite of the company stating they "want to welcome its 20th or even 30th anniversary" less than a year prior, Cygames has chosen to callously toss away and eradicate the almost 10 year history of a game played and loved by millions worldwide. Shadowverse has spawned a physical card game adaptation, a card battle RPG spinoff for the Nintendo Switch, and a sequel released in 2025, Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond. However, fans know that none of these can truly replace the original.

That's why I'm partnering with David "Znull" Miller, an experienced professional programmer with a specialization in reverse engineering, to create a version of Shadowverse (aka Shadowverse Classic) that will last forever: A new server for the original game that will be operated entirely by the community, independently of Cygames.

This unofficial community server will retain single player functionality (including the 100+ hour fully voiced story campaign and its unique, exclusive boss battle stages) at a baseline, but we also hope to preserve multiplayer functionality as well as include other features should time and funds permit.

While David is enthusiastic towards participating in this preservation effort, he is a father with a family to support, and deserves to be paid a fair wage for his hard work. And as much as I would like to, I'm unfortunately unable to pay him entirely out of my own pocket. That's where you, my fellow fans, players and members of Shadowverse community, come in! Your donations will go directly toward David and his work on establishing our new Shadowverse Classic community server. If we meet our goal, not only will Shadowverse Classic continue to ACTUALLY exist until at least its 20th or 30th anniversary as Cygames once promised, it should be ready to play as early as July 2026, once the official server ends service.
