PRESERVE PIERMONT: DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR MATCHING FUND DRIVE
Despite overwhelming community opposition and civic participation, the Village of Piermont is once again pushing forward with the Central Business Multi Use District (CBM) zoning proposal. This second attempt to enact the zone once more threatens to open the door to substantial development, such as proposed projects like the 14-unit multifamily dwelling at 447-477 Piermont Avenue. This project, and the zone which enables it, could forever alter the character of our cherished Village. CBM allows for a level of unprecedented development that could lead to an increase in population density, traffic congestion, flooding, and strain on local resources and infrastructure.
Preserve Piermont, a committed civic organization dedicated to open governance, transparency, and the protection of our Village against irresponsible development stands against the Village’s push to enact the CBM.
Your Contribution Will Be Doubled!
We are thrilled to announce that three generous donors have stepped forward to support this cause with a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $15,000. This means that every dollar you donate will be matched, doubling the impact of your support to a potential $30,000 drive. Our goal is to raise that $15,000 to take full advantage of this matching opportunity, allowing us to fund essential services to support our efforts.
How Your Donation Will Be Used
Funds raised will go directly toward maintaining the professional services needed to oppose this zone change:
• Dresdner Robin, a respected planning, civil engineering, and environmental services firm, will provide expert analysis and insight into the potential impact of the proposed zoning change. Dresdner Robin will prepare memoranda and appear at future Board meetings to offer professional expertise on the Village’s ill-advised proposal.
• Condon Paxos PLLC, a law firm with expertise in municipal litigation, land use and zoning law, will help ensure our legal position is strong and well-prepared as it was the last time around. In April of 2024, several brave residents retained Condon Paxos PLLC to invalidate Local Law 4 of 2023, which created the CBM zone. In a favorable decision from the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of Rockland, Condon Paxos prevailed and had that law struck down, thereby securing residents a second chance. See Janice Young, et al. v. Village of Piermont, et al. - Index No. 032252/2024 (Sup. Ct. Rockland Cty) (Greenwald, J).
This professional support is essential in making a compelling case to protect Piermont from overdevelopment and preserve the small-village charm that makes it so special.
