Legal Fund for Fanwood Residents Against Overdevelopment

Fanwood, NJ neighbors, we have launched our legal effort to file prerogative writ litigation against the Fanwood Planning Board's approval of the 383 South Avenue multi-housing development on the former Chippery site. We need your support now as we commence litigation. The best way to support the future of our small town and its character, as well as preserve our single-family home residential streets, is to fight back with some meaningful legal pushback that moves the ball for our entire community in achieving better, more resident-friendly development regulations for Fanwood. Our legal advisors strongly believe that the Fanwood Planning Board has created serious zoning and residential concerns by approving the 383 South Avenue application.

Our governing body likes to say its Master Plan is "Moving Fanwood Forward." We don't agree that they are moving Fanwood forward on this development. We feel they are pushing out our neighbors on Old South Avenue, South Avenue, Locust, and Leland Street. Remember, 383 South Avenue and other overdeveloped multi-family buildings in our 1.3 square mile town continue to negatively impact the community with higher property taxes (some developers get PILOT agreements so they don't pay into the public schools), busier roads, more cars and emissions, street parking, stress on the energy grid, overcrowded classrooms, and encroachment on single-family home property lines in addition to many other density concerns. We don't deserve this. We invested in Fanwood with our money to live in a suburban town, not an overdeveloped one that encroaches on our residential streets and backyards.

So, please donate as much as you can to help defray the costs of legal action. We believe our beautiful, small historic town is worth it. Together, we can send a message to Borough Hall, the Planning Board, and the development community (including consultants) that all of Fanwood is not for sale and the community is united in preserving our neighborhood.
