The Dorset Quarry has been a popular destination for recreation, swimming and families for over a century. Each year thousands of visitors, and increasing annually due to the internet, enjoy its history, beauty, and recreational activities. The USA Today rated it as one of the top 12 swimming holes in the U.S. It alone was privately owned.
For the past twenty years we, the owners, have made it available to the public at our own expense, including creating a park-like setting, a parking area, providing landscaping maintenance, trash pick up, and port a john facilities.
The time has come for the quarry to find another caretaker, be it the State of Vermont, The Town of Dorset, or a third party. Regardless of who takes it over, significant additional improvements will be required, such as electricity, a well, toilet facilities, fencing as well as other amenities. The quarry could with the proper funding add safety features, park benches and tables, changing facilities, a Stonehenge appearance, a bulletin board capturing its rich history, an area for marble sculpturing, concerts, weddings and much more.
We have shared this rare treasure for over two decades. Now we hope to take it to another level through the financial assistance of those who have and will continue to have found pleasure, memorable times, and special family gatherings at our quarry.
We need to take it to a higher level through a third party who can devote the time, energy, and commitment to its future. Please consider a donation to this cause. We pledge that any funds received will be used solely for improvements to the quarry and surrounding area, including parking.
