I deleted all I had written for this Go Fund Me page a few moments ago. Most of what I had written had been informed by Leah's own words. I realize now that my words all fall short. This is what Leah shared (below.)
Joab's story has touched the hearts of so many. We ask you to reach out and help us raise money to assist the family with Joab's medical care and ease the financial burden of the many associated costs.
I hope you find it in your heart to help provide whatever level of support you can.
From Leah:
Our pregnancy was perfect up until week twenty-three. I went in for an appointment because I felt something was off. My midwife checked me and soon realized that I had a ruptured membrane. Soon after, she sent me to the hospital to confirm that my water had broken. They were able to keep our little man in for another three weeks, bringing me to twenty-six weeks when we welcomed my sweet baby Joab.
They soon rushed him to NICU, the scariest moment of my life, not knowing if he was okay until hours later when we finally got to see him.
I always expected to be handed my baby right after birth; nothing could ever prepare you for something like this. It’s hard to see your baby struggle to breathe, fighting for his life. I would trade places with him in a moment. I was discharged two days later. Leaving the hospital without our baby was heartbreaking. We have managed to go back every single day to see him; it’s a forty-minute drive but well worth it.
He has a long road ahead as they expect him to stay in NICO for a few months. He is strong and has already overcome many obstacles; the nurses/doctors say to be ready for a rollercoaster of emotions.
We trust a very faithful Father and truly believe He will carry us through this very unexpected journey.
Joab will have a beautiful story to tell of what a miracle he truly is.
