It’s always been hard for me to ask for help, but now my life and the life of my unborn child depends on it.
I am a pregnant single mother of two. I’m expecting soon. Due to the Pandemic my birth plan has been changed, not by choice of my own. My midwife called me a week ago to say she is no longer available to assist in my childbirth. I’ve spent a great deal of time and money preparing for a home water birth, after my doctor informed me that my birth plan would no longer be an option at the hospital. I’ve spent hours everyday since calling doulas and midwives that would be available to assist me. The cheapest available midwife wants more than I can afford, especially during this Pandemic. I’ve been struggling financially for years as a single mom already. Unfortunately, the father is unsupportive and has caused a lot of problems for me and my children. My baby shower had to be cancelled, so I am in desperate need of supplies, and 2 weeks ago my car broke down and had to be towed. It’ll cost $2,500 to get it out of the shop.
My dad has always been my biggest supporter. He is currently going through the final stages of colon cancer, which has rapidly spread throughout his body. It’s been a rough year and I’ve had the most stressful pregnancy. Often having to choose which bills will get paid, taking out personal loans, and borrowing money to avoid eviction and to feed myself and my children.
I’m hoping to raise enough money in time to pay a midwife before I go into labor. I’m also needing the funds so I can have a working vehicle, and the necessary supplies for when the baby arrives. My kids are very excited about meeting their new sibling! They don’t know how stressful my situation is, or how fearful I am that I won’t be able to get someone to help me when I go into labor. I have had some people tell me that I cannot have my baby alone, it is too dangerous. I agree. It was never my idea to do this alone. Yet nobody has offered to come over to help me. What I do have is a great group of friends that want to help me get a midwife, and suggested I start a GoFundMe to pay for it and all the necessary supplies.
Anyone that can donate anything at all as quickly as possible is so very much appreciated!!! I will consider this my baby shower as well, since I didn’t get to have one.
