Prayers, Support, and Love for Woody & Shirley Marr

It is with a humble heart that I write to ask for your prayers, encouragement, and financial support for my beloved parents, Woody and Shirley Marr. They have been a source of unconditional Christ centered love, strength, and faith throughout my life, and now they are facing one of the most challenging chapters of their own.

In July of this year, my father, Woody, was diagnosed with an advanced inoperable (stage 4) condition affecting his kidney. The initial prognosis was devastating, but as a family, we came together to grieve, pray, and seek guidance. We decided that a holistic, plant-based, and faith-driven approach to healing offered the greatest chance for a full recovery. With my mother Shirley’s tireless dedication to his daily care, Dad has been fighting bravely every single day. In July, we were told to get our affairs in order—yet six months later, through my mother’s natural approach, he is still here, still fighting!

This fight, however, has come at a significant cost—not only emotionally and physically but also financially. Just a few years ago, my parents sold their home in Grapevine, TX, to retire near family. Tragically, due to unforeseen circumstances retirement has not been an option. Despite these hardships, they have shown unwavering resilience, leaning on their faith and forgiveness while striving to rebuild their lives on a very modest, fixed income.

With my father’s limited energy and his need for rest, the real estate business that once sustained them is not currently a feasible option in their current condition. My mother, a pillar of strength, has taken on the role of his primary caregiver, which demands most of her time and energy, and even still has taken an office admin job to help support them. With their lease ending soon, we considered a move for them back to the DFW area to restart their business, but the burden is simply too great. Whether staying in Houston or relocating to DFW, the financial and emotional strain of their current situation has become very burdesnome.

That is why we have decided to move them to Alabama to live closer to Alycia and the kids and her family. We have found a beaituful brand new home for them to rent where they can find peace and the support they need during this difficult time. This move will ease the financial burden on my father while surrounding them with love, care, and a welcoming community, including a local Southern Baptist church ready to embrace them.

Additionally, Alycia and I have rededicated our lives to Christ since returning to Alabama, and my impact consulting business, Red Cardinal Co., which serves the Veteran Mental Health community, has been truly blessed. This year, we have been able to support my parents financially as they navigate this period of financial and health devastation. We are currently in the process of closing her family’s home on 30 acres. It is our hope and plan to eventually move my parents to this property, where they can find peace and security surrounded by family and love, while significantly reducing their operational expenses.

This is where I humbly ask for your help. My parents, who would never ask for support in this manner, have given so much to their friends, family, and community over the years. If their kindness, love, or generosity has ever touched your life, I invite you to show them that they are not forgotten or alone in their greatest time of need.

How You Can Help:

  • Prayers: Please lift my parents up in prayer. Pray for my father’s healing, my mother’s strength, and peace for our family during this transition.
  • Messages of Love: A kind word or a memory of how they have impacted your life would mean the world to them.
  • Financial Support: If you are able, please consider contributing to help with their relocation and living expenses until my father regains his strength and we can find suitable work for my mother. Every gift, no matter the size, is a blessing and will go directly to their moving, living, and healthcare expenses.
  • Visits: There is no connection like human connection. We welcome visits from anyone who would like to spend time with them. They will now live in Dothan, Alabama, only 90 minutes north of Panama City Beach, with its international airport and beautiful coastline.
  • Share: Please share this with anyone you think would appreciate the opportunity to learn about this situation and support Mom and Dad in a way that feels right for them.

Let us show Woody and Shirley that they are deeply loved and valued. This Christmas season, may I humbly ask for your help in the spirit of Christ to support a couple who has spent their lives selflessly pouring out love and kindness to others, choosing joy, peace, and forgiveness at every opportunity.

It is my greatest honor to serve my parents in this stage of their lives and I will continue to do so. I pray that the work I do continues to grow in impact, allowing me to care for them as they have always cared for me, for as long as possible.

May the LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26
