Hello Friends, I am reaching out to help my sister and brother in law: Krystal and PJ. Krystal has always dreamed of being a mother which makes sense because she truly is the most caring human I’ve ever met. Her compassion is unmeasurable. When Krystal and PJ found out they were expecting a baby they were both beyond ecstatic, it was a dream come true. Although there were a few issues during their pregnancy they were assured everything would be fine. Krystal and her husband went into the hospital on February 6th to be induced. Krystal called me laughing and so excited. We talked the entire time, she joked a lot, we talked about how much hair the new baby would have. Early on February 9th she had to have a C-section because her water had broke but she was not dilated enough and her baby boy was running out of fluid. They prepped her and her husband, performed the C-section and, as she explained it to me over the phone, she said: “Baby Pete came out... he didn’t cry, they said he was blue, he couldn’t breath”. They rushed baby Pete out before Krystal could even see her first born child, that she carried for 9 months. Right afterwards the doctors told Krystal’s husband that baby Pete needed to be transferred to Jersey Shore Medical Center because they have a higher NICU level of care... but they said Krystal couldn’t come because of her surgery. Krystal called me multiple times a day... she said, “I wasn’t the first person to see my son, smell my son, touch my son”. She was in a world of pain mentally, emotionally and physically while being stuck in a completely different hospital than her newborn son. After being incubated 3 times Baby Pete seemed to be improving, they decided they thought they could remove his breathing tube. It was on FEBRUARY 23rd that Krystal was finally able to hold her child... TWO WEEKS after delivering her first baby she had to wait to hold him. As a mother myself, that is a pain I could never comprehend. Baby Pete appeared to be doing better for a bit, but unfortunately he took another bad turn yesterday and they transferred him to CHOP (children’s hospital of Philadelphia) in the middle of the night. Krystal and her husband have been going back and forth to the NJ hospitals but now they will need to commute to CHOP, which is an almost two hour drive each way. I’d appreciate any help her family can receive to offset the costs of transportation, missed work and the medical bills that are piling up. If you know Krystal, you know what it’s like to feel sunshine, because all she does is bring warmth to everyone she meets.
