I went into London recently for a Christmas family day out and I came home feeling heartbroken after seeing so many people sleeping rough.

I know homelessness has always existed and this isn’t new, but I could really see how fragile and worn down these people are. The cold, the exhaustion, and the emotional strain was so visible, and i’ve been thinking every day about how I could try to help, even if it’s just a few people.

This fundraiser is a simple and practical way to try and help as many people as possible; have an extra layer of protection in this cold weather.

So I’m gonna try and raise some money to buy warm, waterproof, fleece-lined coats (dry-robe style with hoods) and hands-free travel neck cushions, which I’ll be giving directly to people sleeping rough.

These items are warm, hopefully weatherproof, and practical and the neck cushions can be worn without needing to carry anything extra.

I fully understand that this doesn’t address the wider, systemic causes of homelessness, and I’m not suggesting that it does. Homelessness is complex and long-standing. But while those bigger issues continue, people still need to get through cold nights right no and staying warm is so important.

All funds raised will go directly towards purchasing these items. I’ll share updates along the way so people can see how the money is being used and when items are distributed.

I’m also reaching out to clothing companies and retailers to see whether I can secure a bulk discount or donated items, so that the money raised goes as far as possible. If I’m able to reduce the cost per coat/pillow, I’ll use that to provide more items and will share updates along the way.
