Praa Sands public toilets to be taken on by local community

Praa Sands Beach is a popular beauty spot for thousands of locals and visitors each year. Located on the south coast in the village of Praa Sands between Helston and Penzance, it was formerly a farming based community which then played a large part in the growth of mining. Today the beach provides a great deal of fun to visitors and local residents alike.

For many years Praa Sands provided adequate facilities for visitors and local residents with a public toilet block which contains a disabled access toilet, baby changing and an outdoor shower area. That was until Cornwall Council announced an indefinite closure of the toilet block back in July 2024 after shutting its doors a few years prior for ongoing repairs and lack of funds.

The community of Praa Sands have recently come together with the help of local resident Jon Matthews to form the 'Friends Of Praa Sands' group and approach Cornwall Council in a bid to save the toilets.

After much discussion, Cornwall Council have kindly agreed to give the community group the chance to take on full responsibility and running costs of the desperately needed facilities.

But this is a one and only opportunity and we need your help!

The toilets are in need of repairs before they can re-open to the general public and this is where donations no matter how big or small will help achieve the funds to carry out the necessary work and make them a success.

Donations will also help fund the initial day to day running costs of the facilities. The group also needs help to fund the installation of a turnstile system which will enable the facilities to generate its own income going forward and cover general maintenance fees, running costs such as septic tank waste disposal, hygiene/cleaning products and equipment.

Friends Of Praa Sands (FOPS) will be forever thankful for any donation made to see the success of the toilets and to keep them open for future generations!
